Greetings! Our next meeting topic is: Getting Started with Zend Framework with Bradford Cottel, Zend Technologies
In this presentation, Bradford Cottel, Zend's evangelist for open-source projects and products at Zend Technologies, will show you how easy it is to install Zend Framework and build a simple MVC (model-view-controll er) application. Brad will lead you through the code, using a smattering of ZF components to build our first ZF application, explaining as he goes. He'll then take questions about the project in general and if possible, some technical questions--or will refer you to the correct mailing list in the ZF community for questions that he doesn't have the answers to.
Intended audience: Beginning PHP programmers, especially those without a lot of object-oriented PHP programming experience. Knowing web server basics would be useful, but not required. May be of interest to experienced OO PHP programmers who want to see how easy it is to get started with Zend Framework, but the code covered will be very basic object-oriented PHP 5 code. When: Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 6:30 PM (sharp - No early - No late!) Where: Opson, Inc. 100 Century Center Ct 501 San Jose , CA 95112 Pizza and drinks will be provided (Courtesy: Dan Segovia - Silicon Valley Cisco Users Group). Greetings! Scalability is often questioned and pondered upon when it comes to choosing LAMP stack for development. Now hear from the expert, Jakob Heuser, Giaionline.com, at our next meetup. TOPIC: Horizontal LAMP Stacks The day the site got busy, everything went down in smoldering ruins. Horizontal scaling can help ease this when on a budget, and will serve you well into your site's growth cycle. Gaia Online has grown from 2 servers in 2003 to almost 350 at present day. Anecdotal stories will help show how sites grow, scale, and turn into large deployments. SPEAKER BIO: A problem solver at heart, Jakob has been programming as a means to satisfy his knowledge thirst for about 10 years. When not coding PHP, JavaScript, or authoring XHTML and CSS, he can be found musing about community, software development, and user engagement on his personal site www.felocity.org. When: Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 6:30 PM (sharp - No early - No late!) Where: Opson, Inc. 100 Century Center Ct 501 San Jose , CA 95112 Snacks and drinks will be available ( Courtesy: Opson, Inc - www.opson.com ( A talent referral network) RSVP: By visiting Silicon Valley Lamp Meetup site. This will be our second meeting for LAMP meet up. We will have a case study or two presented on LAMP implementations. Case study: Hijinx LAMP APP:- Intro: The Hijinx system is a suite of LAMP applications that work together to provide customer management, inventory control and online sales of comic books and graphic novels. Hijinx is written primarily in Perl utilizing the CGI::Application and HTML::Template modules to enforce MVC separation while maintaining readable source code. Hijinx Comics is the oldest comic book store in San Jose and was recently voted best comic book store in Silicon Valley. As the sole proprietor, Dan Shahin has created a series of LAMP applications for use by his staff and his customers. On Meetup day, he'll do a brief overview of the applications and discuss his design methodologies. Please save any Green Lantern related questions until after the meetup is over. contact info: Daniel J Shahin dan@hijinxcomics.com (408) 728-9203 Hijinx Comics 2050 Lincoln Ave San Jose, CA 95125 (408)266-1103 www.hijinxcomics.com
