Hey All
Bar Camp fever is going to Mumbai. This time the focus is on Open Source Technologies. Come over to Mumbai for a fantastic Geeks event. This is a two day event, from 23 to 24 March 2007. Venue has excellant residential facilities also. Please let me know if you are travelling to Mumbai.
Let me tell you a little about the concept of BarCamp just in case you are not aware of the same. I am writing from the experiences of organizing a similar Bar Camp in Delhi. I am taking this text from Times of India which covered last Bar Camp.
To a layman, a BarCamp may look like a conference with presentation and sessions, but geeks would rather call it an "unconference" simply because of its unstructured format.
It's a meet that works just like an Open Space community. The sessions are driven and created by the participants during the course of the event. The organisers have no say!!!
The event typically begins with face-to-face schedule making which allows for emerging developments in technology to be covered.
After introduction of participants, topics are invited. The titles of various sessions are then announced.
The schedule is then posted on the wall. Each session is about an hour long. The day closes with the participants gathering for 20-30 minutes and sharing the day's highlights. The podcast and presentations are saved on the wiki for later reference.
Interestingly, if a speaker exceeds his time limit, the audience is allowed to throw small soft balls at him to make him stop. Sometimes, they SMS their reactions about a speaker, and the messages can be seen on a large screen behind the speaker.
Bar Camp an ad-hoc gathering of people - geeks, software professionals, even filmmakers and amateur radio station owners. What's common is their desire to share and learn in an open environment. It's an intense event with brainstorming, demos, interactions on various tech-related issues.
We are focussing on Open Source in this particular Bar Camp. So guys n gals, get ready for a roller coaster ride.
To make this event, it would be great if you can volunteer as an organizer, send notes to other geeks, be ready to speak on this event, see if you can bring in some sponsership. We just require someone to sponsor the venue and food!! That is only 50-60 k of money required!
Please feel free to contact me at 09810243170.
